Maybe it's a hoax, maybe it's a work of art, or maybe it's forbidden herbal and alchemical knowledge? The Voynich manuscript is an interesting deep dive. The illustrations and handwritten script that have withstood the test of time and elluded deciphering since the 1400's certainly suggest a magic of sorts.
